Shame – Explanation & Description: At The Core Of Many BPD Patients

Shame – Definition & Explanation

Marsha Linehan discusses Shame in the video above.;

“The evolutionary function for shame is that gets you to keep your mouth shut. It makes you hide your behaviour so that you don’t get kicked out of a community.

IF you’re going to get kicked out of a community because you tell them something, then shame is justified.

So – the trick is to keep your mouth shut.”

SHAME… you’ll find this at the core of many BPD patients…

Don’t mistake guilt with shame.

Guilt is when you MAKE a mistake.

Shame is when you ARE a mistake.
